QUAKERTOWN - River Crossing YMCA is accepting enrollments for four free fall Pathway health and wellness programs at the Quakertown branch at 401 Fairview Ave. These include the Healthy Lifestyles program for adults at risk of developing chronic disease and THRIVE Cancer Wellness, a program for adults currently or previously diagnosed with cancer. The Y is also enrolling two free programs for teens: Empower U for girls and Stand Up for boys.

Enrollment for the three free, donor-supported pathway programs for adults closes the week of Sept. 7 with programs beginning the week of Sept. 14. Enrollment is open to the community and participants do not need to be members of the Y.

Healthy Lifestyles is a 12-week program designed for the prevention of chronic diseases, including obesity, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. This program empowers participants to improve their physical health and overall well-being by adopting behavioral change strategies, regular physical activity, and social support. Participants receive a family membership to the Y for the duration of their participation in the 12-week program, followed by two complimentary months of YMCA adult membership upon completion.

“For me, exercise can be challenging, and I like to take the easy way out. However, it is easier with someone pushing me and encouraging me to do it. Hearing other people talk about their own experiences gave me the opportunity to be supportive to them as well. We helped each other.” - Dianne, YMCA Healthy Lifestyles graduate. THRIVE Cancer Wellness is a free 12-week, donor-supported program to support cancer survivors with an evidence-based cancer health and wellness program. Participants focus on recovering and maintaining strength, endurance and an overall sense of well-being. The program is open to individuals who are currently in cancer treatment or recovery, and includes a 12 week family membership to the Y for the duration of the program followed by two complimentary months of YMCA adult membership upon completion. Since its inception in 2012, over 600 survivors and their families have been impacted by THRIVE.

“I did the THRIVE program completely through chemo, twice a week. It made chemo go so much better. It made my recovery so much better. My oncologist can't believe how well I am, and I said it's because I did the Thrive program.” - THRIVE Cancer Wellness Pathway graduate. Watch her story here. (photo courtesy River Crossing YMCA)

Empower U and Stand Up are free, donor-supported 6-week wellness programs for teens age 12-15, designed to strengthen self-esteem, positive relationships and self-reliance. The programs include fitness, classes and topical discussions, along with a free two month teen membership to the Y during the program.
