$1.6M In Grants Coming To Hatboro, Horsham Township

State Representatives Guenst and Cerrato secure grants for park improvements, a new school roof and some vehicles.

HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Grants are coming to Hatboro and Horsham Township from their respective state representatives.

State Rep. Nancy Guenst has secured more than $3 million in grants for Eastern Montgomery County projects in the community she serves.

"These projects are all about enhancing the quality of life in our district," Guenst said.

Hatboro is receiving a $818,377 grant for improvements to Memorial Park. The upgrades include constructing ADA-compliant parking and pathways, adding two new pedestrian bridges, and addressing stormwater management with new drainage swales and a rain garden. (See Guenst's other grants below.)

Meanwhile, State Rep. Melissa Cerrato secured several grants for the communities she serves in the 151st Legislative District.

They include:

  • Hatboro-Horsham School District, Hallowell Elementary School Roof Replacement Project — $575,000 The school's roof is leaking, and the current asphalt shingle-style roof has been determined to be insufficient. The proposed project will remove the shingle roof and install a new metal roof to prevent future water infiltration. PSFIG funds will be used for renovation and engineering costs.
  • Horsham Township, Emergency Management Vehicle —$76,275 This project will enhance the township's emergency management response and mitigation capabilities. It includes purchasing a 2024 Ford F150 Responder truck with a storage cap, a pull-out cargo tray, and emergency management equipment.
  • Horsham Water and Sewer Authority, Crane Truck Replacement —$175,070 The current crane truck is 20 years old and has exceeded its useful life. The new crane truck will be used to move and deliver treatment chemical drums, lift sewage pumping stations for maintenance and repairs, and move spare equipment between the Authority's different components.

Cerrato's other grants include:

  • Ambler Borough, Wissahickon Fire Company Wissahickon Fire Company Renovations — $1,000,000 This project will include replacing single-pane windows with insulated glass and frames, replacing apparatus bay doors, renovating public toilets to be ADA compliant, renovating the kitchen space, and remodeling the front entrance. Exterior renovations will include repaving the parking area, drainage improvements, and repairs to steps and retaining walls.
  • Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority, Mitzvah Circle Renovation —$750,000 This project includes renovations to the warehouse facility, such as roofing, stucco/exterior painting, enclosing the loading dock, HVAC installation, new offices/restrooms/breakroom, and electrical upgrades. These renovations will allow Mitzvah Circle to continue their work of providing basic material goods, case management, coaching, and referrals to individuals and families in Montgomery County facing poverty, homelessness, serious illness, and difficult circumstances.

"State-level funding is essential for advancing local development, as it helps communities grow and improve without placing added pressure on taxpayers. By funding crucial projects such as infrastructure and public services, we ensure continued progress while maintaining lower local tax rates," Cerrato said.

Guenst also secured grants for the other communities she serves in Eastern Montgomery County:

  • Lower Moreland Township —Bethayres Streetscape Preliminary Design Lower Moreland Township has been awarded $140,000 to cover the engineering and preliminary design costs for the Bethayres streetscape plan. This project aims to enhance pedestrian accessibility and create a more welcoming environment.
  • Montgomery County —Cross County Trail East, Section C. Montgomery County has received $500,000 to construct a 1.75-mile portion of the Cross County Trail East. This project will upgrade the existing gravel trails to an accessible multi-use trail, close the gap in the regional Circuit Trails network and connect major destinations in Upper Moreland Township and Bryn Athyn Borough.
  • Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority – Willow Grove YMCA Capital Project —The Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of the Willow Grove YMCA, has received $318,000 to install two new pavilions. These pavilions will allow the YMCA to expand its summer camp capacity and provide an outdoor event space for community activities.
  • Upper Moreland Township – Springhouse Renovations —Upper Moreland Township has been granted $102,000 to complete the restoration of the historic Springhouse Building at Farmstead Park. The project will finalize the rehabilitation of the Springhouse by adding structural support and roofing.
  • Eastern Center for Arts and Technology - HVAC Equipment Replacement Project —The Eastern Center for Arts and Technology received $575,000 for the replacement of 16 outdated air handling units at its Upper Moreland Township facility. Many of the units are over 40 years old, and this project will improve air quality, ventilation, and safety by conforming to modern codes. The funds will cover the purchase, installation, and engineering costs for the new equipment.
  • Upper Moreland Township School District - Primary School Roof Replacement Project —The Upper Moreland Township School District received $575,000 to address the aging roof at its Primary School, which spans 70,000 square feet and has developed leaks and insulation problems. The project will install a new 2-ply Hybrid KEE Membrane System to ensure a leak-free and secure environment for students and staff.
