$110K In Grants Distributed In Hatboro-Horsham School District

More than $110,000 in grants was recently distributed across 22 programs throughout the Hatboro-Horsham School District.

HORSHAM, PA -- More than $110,000 in grants was recently distributed across 22 programs throughout the Hatboro-Horsham School District.

The "Innovative Learning" grants are from the Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation and provide equipment and materials for various projects.

“These grants will reach students in every grade and every school on our district. We’re delighted to provide funding for diverse, innovative programs that will offer unique, inspiring educational experiences,” said Nancy DeLucia, Executive Director of HHEF, in a statement. “We’re extremely proud that for more than 30 years, we’ve awarded more than $1.3 million dollars in grants to benefit Hatboro-Horsham students. All this is possible thanks to contributions from individuals, our local Rotary Clubs and business support through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program.”

According to the Foundation, the grants awarded include:

  • Osmo Learning in the Classroom – two grants totaling $7,300 for Crooked Billet and Hallowell Elementary Schools to purchase Osmo, an innovative device that transforms a regular iPad into an interactive classroom tool.
  • Kulu Mele Performance – a $2,700 grant to Pennypack Elementary School to bring in Kulu Mele African Dance & Drum Ensemble, a 10-person performance group whose repertoire features authentic, traditional dance, drumming and storytelling from West Africa, Cuba and Brazil, as well as contemporary American hip hop.
  • KV Makerspace – this $4,100 grant provides for the expansion of the highly successful KV MakerSpace at Keith Valley Middle School; purchasing two more high-speed computers and VIVE equipment that will allow students to experience Virtual Reality.
  • LEGO Robot Invasion – a $7,300 grant will be split among four elementary schools (Blair Mill, Crooked Billet, Hallowell and Pennypack) to purchase additional LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robots for their Robotic programs. The technology provides opportunities for students engage in hands-on STEM activities and compete in FIRST LEGO League competitions.
  • Digital Microscopes – this $9,400 grant will fund 30 Celestron Digital Microsopes to be used by students enrolled in Biology, Forensics, Genetics and Environmental Science at Hatboro-Horsham High School.
