$2,000 Check Given To St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank
The Horsham Township-based food bank feeds more than 100 Montgomery County families each week.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —In feeding more than 100 Montgomery County families each week, the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank could sometimes use a donation as well.
The food bank got one recently in the form of a $2,000 check from Horsham Township.
At its meeting earlier this month, the Horsham Township Council presented a $2,000 check to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank from the proceeds of the 10th Annual Freezer 5k Run in December that was held at Simmons Elementary School on the Power Line Trail.

"They do a lot of great work for needy families in Horsham," Township Manager Bill Walker said. "They provide financial advice and do a lot more than just give out food. They are a very important group that steps up to the plate."
Township officials said the donation will ensure that community members in need have access to nutritious meals and food security from the Witmer Road food bank in the church hall of St. Catherine's of Siena Church.

The church is open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. There's a shopping cart located in the entrance to receive donations.
"We do realize the important work you do," said Council President Mark McCouch, who presented the check.
St. Vincent representatives said they've seen a rise in need at the food bank where it once fed 70 families a week. Organizers said 120 walk-ins came in on a recent Saturday, when the pantry is open from 10 a.m. to noon.
Since the food bank is open on a weekend day, it also attracts needy from Bucks County towns like Feasterville and Levittown.
Meanwhile, Horsham Township is also no longer accepting food pantry donations at its municipal building. A sign posted inside the building said donations should go directly to St. Vincent.
