HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Two Horsham Township police officers suffered minor injuries after being assaulted Thursday morning by a female Hatboro-Horsham High School student, police said.

Police Officer Barry Ramsey was treated at urgent care for minor injuries and released after being punched in the face three times, the Horsham Township Police Department reported.

High School resource officer Mary Novak was punched in the ear but did not seek medical attention, police said.

Police said Novak requested another police officer for assistance around 11:49 a.m. Thursday for a student who was "aggressively attempting" to find another student to assault, police said.

Police said the suspect had a specific student she was trying to assault and that Novak and Ramsey prevented her from getting inside the classroom. The officers confronted the suspect and were then assaulted, police said.

The student —who was not named because she's a juvenile —was arrested and is in police custody, police said.

Schools Superintendent Scott Eveslage told Patch Thursday that he could not comment on the specifics of the incident.

"It's a disciplinary matter regarding a minor," Eveslage said.

The superintendent said that Novak has been an employee of both the school district and police department for several years.

"We obviously have concern for the safety of all of our employees and our law enforcement," Eveslage said. "We are wishing the officers a smooth recovery."

Police said this was the second time Novak has been assaulted at the high school this year and third time since she has taken the position. In the other two incidents, the students were allowed to return to school, police said.

Eveslage said those were separate incidents not related to the current one and that the school district has had an officer at the high school for several years.
