HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Hatboro faced tragedy this year when a police officer and a long-time borough councilwoman died. Meanwhile, two long-term projects finally moved forward with the opening of a section of a roadway and approval for a new middle school in Horsham Township.

Hatboro Police Officer Ryan Allen died in April after suffering a heart attack from a bee sting. Allen, who was only in his mid-30s, was integral in starting the K9 Unit at the Hatboro Police Department.

$125M New Keith Valley Middle School Approved

After years of discussion about replacing a school built in 1957, the Hatboro-Horsham School Board unanimously approved awarding bids for the construction of a new middle school. The new school is estimated to cost $124,894,030 and will be built behind the current school on Meetinghouse Road.

Hatboro Councilwoman Aleta Ostrander Dies Suddenly

Long-time Hatboro Councilwoman Aleta Ostrander died suddenly in early December. Ostrander was first appointed to Borough Council in May 2006 and served until Dec. 31, 2011. She was re-elected to the council in 2019 and served a second term from Jan. 1, 2020, until her death.

County Line Road Section Reopens Ahead Of Schedule

It wasn't supposed to open until spring. But PennDOT sprung the announcement that the County Line Road Stage 4 reconstruction between Park Road and Bradford Road in Horsham and Warrington townships was months ahead of schedule. The roadway section opened in mid-December.

Montco Parents Speak Out About Child Abuse At Horsham School

In early January, the parents of a young child who suffered abuse at the hands of an employee of the Malvern School in Horsham spoke out about their ordeal. Christine and Steven Clarke said their young child, Harper, was abused at the school in the summer of 2020 when Harper was just seven months old.
