Project Blue Light is a nationwide observance begun more than 30 years ago by Dolly Craig of Philadelphia.

In 1988, Craig placed two blue candle lights in the window of her home: one in honor of her son-in-law, Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Gleason, killed in the line of duty 1986; and one for her daughter Pam, Gleason’s wife, who died in an auto crash in 1988. The couple had six children.

Craig wrote of her simple gesture to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), an organization dedicated to families of fallen officers, which helped the idea take hold nationally.

The police department and Horsham Community Police Services filled 21 patrol cars during its food drive at the Horsham Giant Food Store on Saturday.

"We hit 21 cars this year. That is one more car than last year," Horsham ChATs said. "One thing to consider is with the price of food these days, this year’s Pack the Patrol Car event was our best ever. We would like to thank all of those who gave so much this year to help others. We truly live in an amazing community."

Horsham ChATs thanked volunteers at the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry who unloaded all of the cars, the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts who helped out at the Giant, our Town Watch Special Details Team members Bob D., Bob T., and Chris W., Officer Ramsay, Detective Hatcher, and Lt. Larry Bozzomo for all their help, and all the great team members at the Horsham Giant.

"Finally, we would like to thank Andrea Kelly of the Horsham Neighbors Association, who coordinates this event every year. You made a big difference for so many this year," Horsham ChATs said.
