6 Weeks Later, Legal Questions Remain In Hatboro Bank Robber Shooting

There is still no word on potential charges.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has still not made a decision on whether or not to press charges on George Forgeng, the man that shot a bank robber as fled the scene in early July.

The man who allegedly robbed the Hatboro TD Bank on July 8 before being shot by a Hatboro councilman has disputed the councilman’s version of events, according to a report in the Bucks County Courier Times.

One defense attorney told Philly.com that because the robber was not armed, it could make for a difficult situation for Forgeng.

“If it turns out that he wasn’t sure if it was the robber . . . he had no reason to believe the person was armed, and there were no movements that appeared that he was armed . . . then the question is, can he shoot somebody under those circumstances?” said David Zellis, who is also a former Bucks County prosecutor.

“I’m not hiding,” Forgeng told Philly.com outside Borough Hall before a meeting earlier this month.

Though some have expressed concerns that Forgeng discharged his weapon near children, many have risen to his defense, calling him a hero.

Kevin Philip-Johnson Way, the alleged robber, has a trial date scheduled for September 2 in Norristown.
