Hatboro Borough officials said temporary speed bumps on West Monument Avenue are due to increased traffic.

HATBORO, PA — Temporary speed bumps have been installed on West Monument Avenue due to increased traffic.

The Hatboro Borough Police Department said drivers should use caution when driving over these speed bumps to avoid any potential damage to their vehicles.

Police recommend reducing speeds to 10 mph or less when navigating through the area.

In order to avoid the speed bumps, police advise drivers to follow the posted detour for the West Moreland Avenue Bridge closure to ensure a smoother and safer commute.

Borough officials said residents requested temporary speed bumps due to the increase in traffic caused by the bridge closure.

Officials said the borough hand-delivered notices to all homes on West Monument Avenue informing them of the upcoming installation.

In March, a speed study was conducted on the road.

Hatboro Police performed the study from Feb. 6 to Feb. 12 on West Monument Avenue between the western entrance to Memorial Park and the West Monument Ave Bridge, which will be closed for about two years due to a Montgomery County bridge replacement project.

The police department said that Pennsylvania municipal law enforcement is not permitted to conduct speed enforcement using a speed timing device on a motor vehicle until it is traveling at least 11mph over the posted speed limit.
