HATBORO, PA — A 43-year-old man has been charged for the assault for a child under his care at a borough daycare center, police said.
The Hatboro Borough Police Department has charged Thomas Coleman with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police responded to a complaint of an assault at the KinderCare at 378 South Warminster Road on March 25.
An investigation found that Coleman physically assaulted a child who was left in his care, police said.
A warrant for his arrest was issued by District Justice Todd Stephens and Coleman was taken into custody by police this past week.
Coleman was arraigned with bail set at 10 percent of $25,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for a later date.
KinderCare issued a statement following the incident.
"The safety and well-being of every child in our care is our highest priority. When concerns about a now-former employee were brought to our attention in late March, we immediately removed him from the classroom, reported the matter to the appropriate authorities, and fully cooperated with their investigation," a KinderCare spokesperson said. "Because his conduct did not meet our standards or our commitment to children, we terminated his employment that same month. Our center directors are focused on reinforcing our child safety protocols during regular scheduled and unscheduled classroom observations, during which they provide teachers with guidance and feedback on their teaching style and classroom management practices."
