Angela Whelan, who has served as interim principal of the Hatboro-Horsham High School since March, will become the school’s official principal.

Sarah Stout, a former principal in Lower Merion School District who previously worked at Keith Valley Middle School, will lead Simmons Elementary School as principal.

“Angela and Sarah are both outstanding leaders, and the District looks forward to them bringing their talents and dedication into their roles as principals,” said Schools Superintendent Scott Eveslage.

The Hatboro-Horsham school board approved both principal appointments, which go into effect on Wednesday.

Angela Whelan, principal of Hatboro-Horsham High School

Whelan has worked in the school district since 2007.

She started as a student teacher while attending Rider University. Before becoming interim principal, Whelan was a high school assistant principal since 2018.

She also served as Math Department chair, data coordinator and mathematics teacher.

“My professional growth has all been within the walls of this school, and I’m really proud to be a Hatter,” Whelan said. “I’m excited to continue the growth that we’ve had and bring us to the next level.”

Whelan graduated with her master’s degree in educational leadership from Holy Family University and earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Rider University.

Sarah Stout, principal of Simmons Elementary School

After working in middle school leadership and education for 25 years, Stout is transitioning to elementary as the new principal of Simmons Elementary School.

“I was looking for a different type of challenge and wondered what working in elementary might be like,” Stout said. “I love being a building principal and working with teachers, kids and families.”

Stout returns to Hatboro-Horsham School District after most recently serving as the founding principal of Black Rock Middle School in Lower Merion School District since 2021.

In addition to her various roles as principal and assistant principal, she was the assistant principal of Keith Valley Middle School from 2010-2013.

“I’m really excited to be back,” Stout said. “Hatboro-Horsham is a really unique community. The community has such pride in its schools and is really involved, so I’m looking forward to that community partnership.”

Stout has always worked in middle school education, whether it be in an administrative or teaching role, and looks forward to being involved with students at a younger age.

Stout earned her master's degree in educational leadership and her bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Penn State University.
