HATBORO, PA — Lochel's Bakery is pleading patience as it turns over its retail store staff.
The Lochel family has informed its customers that the longtime bakery — with over 30 years of operation on South York Road — is asking for a "little patience and understanding" as it trains an almost entirely new retail staff over the next few weeks and months.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful high school employees over the years, but now many of them are heading off to college," the owners said. "We're excited to welcome new team members who are kind, friendly, eager to learn, and we know they'll do a great job — but training takes time."
The bakery has had a history of being bashed on social media over the years for some of its products, including items related to President Donald Trump, cornbread, and other baked goods.
The bakery said it has seven new employees, and the training may make service a little longer than usual and the ordering process could take longer as well.
The bakery said that business hours may also have to be temporarily adjusted as to not leave new employees alone on shifts before they're fully trained or without adequate coverage from experienced staff.
The bakery still has one part-time morning opener/day shift position available that has been a challenge to fill, its owners said.
"This position starts at 5:30 a.m., so we're looking for someone who is an early riser and, most importantly, extremely dependable," the owners said. "Those two qualities have been very difficult to find."
"We'd like to thank you for your continued support," the owners said. "We've been proud to call Hatboro home for over 30 years, and we truly feel blessed by the support of our amazing community. We wouldn't be in business over 80 years (the first location was in Bristol Borough) without local support."
