The police department said the calls are a scam and that they do not employ a person named "Sgt. Gilbert," and never call to demand payment for missing jury duty.

Anyone who receives a call from someone claiming to be "Sgt. Gilbert" or any other law enforcement officer demanding payment should not provide any personal or financial information and instead should hang up and contact police to report the incident.

"We urge all residents to remain vigilant and protect themselves from these types of scams," police said. "Remember, law enforcement agencies will never call you to demand payment or threaten arrest over the phone."

Anyone with questions or concerns should contact the Hatboro Borough Police Department.
