HATBORO, PA — The construction has begun.
The deal has been signed, sealed, and delivered — and now work on The Iron Oven Hatboro is underway.
Owner Alex Nalbandian provided a short update this week on the project, saying that he's officially taken over the property on South York Road, once occupied by Ross & Co.
Nalbandian said he will provide regular construction updates.
"Construction has officially started at The Iron Oven Hatboro, and we're bringing you along for all of it," he said. "The tear outs, the upgrades, the behind the scenes, and everything in between. Consider this your first construction update."
Nalbandian said he will model the new business after his Iron Oven, which he has operated for over eight years at 1134 Street Road in Southampton.
"Just like Southampton, we're creating a place that feels like home from the second you walk through the door," he said.
When it was first announced by Patch in early July, Nalbandian told Patch that he hopes to open sometime in the fall.
He told Patch on Thursday that the opening will hopefully be sometime in the second week of November.
He said that demolition work has been completed and that painting has also begun with construction starting on Thursday.
Iron Oven is known for its quality food, monthly specials, great service, a menu featuring clean ingredients, and long rolls baked on the premises.
News of the construction start was well received on Facebook.
"So happy your day has come," Hatboro Borough Manager Diane Hegele said. "Can't wait for your opening day."
Other said they were excited to welcome the new restaurant and were happy to see that the Ross & Co. sign had been removed and that lights were on inside the building.
Nalbandian started the process of acquiring the site when Bernie's closed, but Ross & Co. acquired the location when Bernie's closed, but its owner bickered with the Hatboro Borough Council for showing a lack of support for the business and it closed after 10 months.
Iron Oven recently was represented at the annual Moonlight Memories Car Show in July to show its presence in the community.
