HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Hatboro-Horsham School District has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community.
Officials said that the arts are important in the school district and have made commitments to providing students with high-quality visual arts education, which supports student success in and beyond the classroom.
The PAEA Outstanding Visual Arts Community endorsement is based on a variety of criteria which focuses on programs that are Rigorous, Inclusive, Accessible, and Visible.
Speaking about how the art community is realized at the high school level,
"Because we have students from all different grade-levels and all of our classes are totally mixed skill-wise and grade-wise, everyone brings something to the table that's different, and everyone gets something beneficial out of the grouping," HHHS Art Teacher Leah Micikas said.
Micikas said that HHSD provides a litany of classes for students K-12 who want to explore art and creativity in the classroom.
"Fostering an outstanding arts community takes effort and collaboration at every level of art education," Micikas said. "As a whole, K to 12, everyone is really stellar, and the teachers really work so hard that by the time [students] get to the high school, they're already primed for success and we're here building on top of a lot of the foundational stuff that's already there."
