HATBORO, PA — A man who worked at a borough business allegedly stole over 20 checks worth over $60,000 and cashed them, police said.
Elmer Alexander Maquin-Tzul, 31, cashed over 20 checks, all made payable to himself, for over $60,000, the Hatboro Police Department said.
He was charged with two counts of forgery, theft, and fraud, and access device fraud.
Hatboro Police met with employees of the unnamed local business who wanted to report a theft on Oct. 6.
An investigation found that Maquin-Tzul was terminated in July after employees found that he had allegedly stole checks from the business and began cashing them at various locations.
Police issued an arrest warrant on Oct. 28, and he was taken into custody on Oct. 30.
Maquin-Tzul was arraigned and posted bail of 10 percent of $25,000 and released.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Thursday before District Justice Todd Stephens.
