HATBORO, PA —South York Road has been ticketed for water service upgrades starting Tuesday, borough officials said.

Hatboro officials were notified Friday by Aqua personnel that they will perform water service upgrades on South York Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

The work is proposed to take place on both sides of South York Road (from 7 S. York through 36 S. York Road), borough officials said.

Aqua has requested that on-street parking be prohibited on both sides of York Road. They indicated that preventing on-street parking in these locations will assist their personnel with completing the project more quickly and efficiently, borough officials said.

Aqua stated that there may be overnight work required due to traffic congestion; however, they are unsure at this time whether that will be necessary, officials said.

"Upon receiving notification of this work, the borough immediately contacted executives at Aqua regarding the lack of notice for this project and inquired on how/when Aqua would be notifying residents and business owners of this project," officials said.

Officials said the borough has not received any information on Aqua regarding any outages expected, traffic pattern changes, etc.

While not yet 100 percent confirmed, borough officials said they've heard of Aqua performing work on Orchard Avenue sometime during the above timeframe as well.

"This work greatly affects our business community, residents who live above storefronts, and motorists within the borough," borough officials said.

With other main thoroughfares (Horsham Road, County Line Road, etc.) currently undergoing utility infrastructure work, the borough "realizes that this is not ideal, however, we have little to no control over this project taking place" as Aqua has received approval from PennDOT.

Residents and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays while work is taking place.

Businesses will remain open and operating during this time and we remind everyone to shop small, shop local, and shop Hatboro.

The borough will provide updates as they are available.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to contact Aqua directly with any questions and concerns at 215-659-2505.
