Bus Drivers Are an Essential Part of School Success

Hatboro-Horsham School District is currently is accepting applications for bus drivers, and provides training.

Driving a school bus isn’t just a great job – it’s a vital part of ensuring a child’s success in school.

Teachers and administrators may be vital components to a child’s education success, but so is the dedicated fleet of bus drivers who transport children to and from school daily to receive that education. “Bus drivers are an essential part of the school day to most children,” said Linda Gloner, Human Resources Director for the Hatboro Horsham School District. “They are the first person a child and parent sees each morning.”

The District currently is accepting applications for bus drivers, and is willing to provide the necessary training to attract quality candidates. “While we seek certified CDL drivers, as our needs are immediate, we would entertain training committed individuals for this year and next,” said Gloner.

According to a July 2014 national survey conducted by online resource SchoolBusFleet.com, Hatboro-Horsham isn’t alone in its shortage of bus drivers. The survey revealed that 85 percent of respondents were experiencing difficulty in filling school bus driver positions.

Hatboro-Horsham offers its part-time bus drivers a very attractive compensation package. Requirements for the position include a high school diploma or GED and a Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Recertification for a Class B CDL license is required every four years. Drivers work for approximately two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon from September through June. Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and are expected to positively represent the District to students, parents and the community.

“Hatboro-Horsham drivers are a part of our community. The team works together to make sure that all children arrive at school and home safely each day,” said Gloner. “In order to work in a school district, you have to be able to pass all of the pre-employment clearance and reference-checking processes.”

The list of clearances a school bus driver must obtain includes:
· Act 34 – Criminal History Clearance
· Act 151 – Child Abuse History Clearance

· Act 114 – FBI Clearance

Candidates interested in applying for the position should visit the Hatboro-Horsham website at www.hatboro-horsham.org. Job listings and application information can be found under the Administration/Human Resources/Employment Opportunities section.
