Until the next day, when Valesky said Slate was found after being stuck in a tree for 12 hours.

Valesky said a ladder was used to go up the tree and lure Slate to safety. He was then taken to Rau Animal Hospital to be scanned for a chip and to get a checkup.

Slate then spent the night at Borough Manager Diane Hegele's house while the borough posted on Facebook to find its owner. The unexpected house guest got a chuckle when Hegele mentioned it at the recent Borough Council meeting.

Slate's family was able to pick him up and everyone was reunited.

"It was a happy ending," Valesky said.
