Celebrate 'Take Your Child to the Library Day' at the Union Library Company of Hatboro

The Union Library Company of Hatboro will celebrate 'Take Your Child to the Library Day' on Saturday, February 6th 11:00-2:00.

Take Your Child to the Library Day is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to visit their local library. Nadine Lipman, a children’s librarian in Waterford, Connecticut, came up with the idea for ‘Take Your Child to the Library Day’ and selected the first Saturday in February as the annual day of celebration. The goal of the day is to raise community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child.

This will be the fourth year that the Union Library will be participating. We are looking forward to a day filled with fun activities for children of all ages and their families. This year’s event will feature storytime, crafts, snacks, music, and Lego fun. A scavenger hunt through the library will give children an opportunity to see parts of the building they may not even know exist. Activities will take place from 11:00-2:00.

This special program is just one of the many programs offered for children at the Union Library. Weekly programs include Preschool Storytime, Baby & Me Lapsit and ToddlerTime. We have also added SleepyTime Stories, an evening, family storytime on the fourth Thursday of the month. Lego Club, for children Kindergarten through 5th grade, is held the first Thursday of each month. We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ Birthday on March 5th. During National Library Week in April, we will feature programs based on the Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child 2016 selection. We are looking forward to sharing this year’s selection, Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story, written and illustrated by Will Hillenbrand, with our youngest library patrons.
