Celebrating Hatboro

The Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce invites the public to join in celebrating our town and honoring three individuals for their service to the community on Saturday evening, February 9, 2019, at the biennial Borough Ball to be held at the Spring Mill Manor. According to Robert M. John, the chairman of the Borough Ball Awards Committee, the Chamber will be presenting the Borough of Hatboro Honored Citizen Awards to recognize distinguished service rendered to the Borough of Hatboro; service that is characterized by unselfish devotion to the welfare of others. The Service to Community Award is presented for distinguished service that has enhanced the quality of life in the Borough of Hatboro. Receiving the 2019 Service to Community award is Patricia M. Beadling. She is a “life member” of the Enterprise Fire Company where she has served as chairman of the board of directors and an emergency medical technician. Beadling also served the Hatboro-Horsham School District, most notably as a School Board member for two four-year terms, seven as treasurer. In Scouting, she served as Chairperson of Hatboro Cub Pack 17. As a 40-year member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Hatboro she has held numerous positions including Church Council President and 20 years as chairman of the Social Ministry committee, the church’s community outreach arm. Upon her retirement as chief of staff for former State Senator Stewart Greenleaf, she received a Senate citation for her work on behalf of the people of Pennsylvania and for her community service.

The Service to Public Award is presented for distinguished service that has enhanced the quality of public services in the Borough of Hatboro. This year the award is being presented to Diane C. Hegele. She started working for the Borough 25 years ago as a part-time police dispatcher. A short time later she became a full time employee for the Borough as an assistant administrative secretary which eventually transitioned into administrative secretary. About ten years ago she received the title of Assistant Borough Secretary and Open Records Officer working directly under several different Borough Managers. With her vast experience and knowledge of municipal affairs and operations, the Borough Council in January of 2018 unanimously voted to name her our first female Borough Manager. According to Mayor Nancy Guenst, Diane is "everything Hatboro” who through her “love of the Borough” is “making Hatboro even better than its ever been.”

The Service to Youth Award is presented for distinguished service that has affected the character development of youth in the Borough of Hatboro. Gary Chamberlain is this year’s recipient of the Chamber’s Service to Youth Award. Gary has been the Executive Director of the Hatboro Area YMCA since 2005. As such he leads a staff of over 200 employees and manages 9 full time directors and 4 supervisors who directly report to him. During his tenure he made room for the Montgomery County Special Olympics Gymnastics team to train at the Hatboro Area YMCA. He also was instrumental in developing the new "Camp Site” across the street from the Y on the Miller tract.
