Employers to Showcase Diverse Career Opportunities at Tech Futures Fair 2016 on April 1

HORSHAM---Technological expertise is no longer the exclusive domain of IT departments. In the future, regardless of industry, technical proficiency will be essential in most work environments--although specific skills requirements may vary by employment sector.

On April 1, 2016, area employers will provide Hatboro-Horsham students with insights into imminent tech needs and job opportunities in a wide array of industries when they convene at the high school for Tech Futures Fair 2016. Not only will business representatives share information about emerging skill requirements, they will also demonstrate the exciting ways in which these skills will be applied in the workplace. The event is geared to the District’s eighth through twelfth grade students. Companies that use technology to create business success are invited to exhibit.

Organizers anticipate that close to 40 companies--representing Arts and Communication, Business, Finance & IT, Health/Life Sciences, Engineering and Human Services--will participate.

Technological advances and the impact on skills

Due to increased reliance on technology in the workplace and the accelerating pace of technological advances, industries are being transformed. If they are to compete effectively and efficiently, they must groom the next generation of workers to respond to these changes.

“Employers can benefit from participating in Tech Futures Fair 2016 because they have an opportunity to connect with an emerging group of employees and show them the interesting and diverse opportunities that are on the horizon,” said conference organizer and Hatboro-Horsham School District Director of Community Outreach & Communications Jeannie Hagan.

The early bird catches the job

When teens are given a preview of the skills and jobs of the future they can be inspired to make more informed career decisions and begin to acquire the skills and training that are essential to eventually securing rewarding and stimulating careers. Employers benefit because they will have access to a pool of employees with the skills that support their operations.

“Tech Future Fair 2016 encourages our students to begin thinking about careers prior to graduation. Industries across the board are adopting new technologies at an unprecedented rate. We believe the information that businesses are bringing to Tech Futures Fair will motivate students to get a jump start on thinking about what they envision themselves doing in the future and taking the actions to make it happen, which will ultimately give them an edge in the job market and allow them to stand out amongst their peers,” said Hatboro-Horsham School District Superintendent Curtis J. Griffin.

Hatboro-Horsham School District, the Business-Education Partnership of Bucks & Montgomery Counties, the Hatboro-Horsham Education Foundation and the Greater Horsham Chamber of Commerce have been involved in planning Tech Futures Fair 2016.

Tech Futures Fair 2016 will be held April 1, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hatboro-Horsham High School, 899 Horsham Road, Horsham PA.
