St. Louis Chapel Historical Marker Dedication

Officials will gather to dedicate a historical marker for the former St. Louis Chapel, at 47 N Penn St., in Hatboro.

The ceremony will take place close to the chapel's original location. This Roman Catholic mission chapel served the people of Hatboro and the surrounding communities from 1890-1916.

Father Kramer, pastor of St. John Bosco, will be performing the invocation and State Rep. Tom Murt (R-152) will speak.  Lin Magaha, president of Hatboro's Millbrook Society, will also speak. All are invited to attend. SEPTA will allow free parking in the parking lot located behind the . The entrance is on East Moreland Avenue.

The St. Louis Chapel was located on the south side of Montgomery Avenue west of Penn Street. The chapel was started as a mission by Father Rufe of St. Anthony's Church in Ambler. Two masses per month were held in the chapel until 1892 when parishioners traveled to Willow Grove. In 1915, the chapel was reopened as a mission from St. Luke's in Glenside, moved to Willow Grove the following year, and shortly thereafter opened as St. David's Church.

The dedication ceremony is the third within the last month, following historical marker dedications at and the former site.
