Former Hatboro-Horsham Teacher Jailed For Giving Teens Drugs, Alcohol

A former Hatboro-Horsham teacher who students said 'made math fun' is headed to jail for hosting parties with pot and alcohol.

A former Hatboro-Horsham teacher who one student described as "the best math teacher ever" and another said "made math fun" has been jailed for hosting drug and alcohol parties for teenagers at his Bucks County home.

Jeffrey Zeltt, 51, of Warrington was sentenced Friday to serve five to 23 months in prison for "repeatedly" hosting the parties where he supplied as many as 50 teens at a time with alcohol and marijuana. In addition to the jail time, Zeltt will be on probation for a year.

Zeltt told authorities he "encouraged" the drinking and pot parties because he and his children were trying to cope with his wife's death. “I let it happen,” he said, according to the Bucks County District Attorney's office. “I encouraged it.”

He told investigators that his teenage daughters seemed happier when their friends were constantly around them at the parties. “I was just out of my mind. I didn’t even think it was wrong,” Zeltt said, according to a statement on Zeltt's sentencing provided by the District Attorney's office.

Zeltt’s daughters are no longer in his custody and have been living with the families of friends since his arrest, the District Attorney's office said.

He is no longer employed by the Hatboro-Horsham School District, where he had taught math for many years and received glowing reviews from students.

Feedback left on Zeltt's profile on the popular Ratemyteachers.com website includes at least a dozen reviews from students, including one that describes Zeltt as being "so nice and cool."

"Mr zeltt teaches well (if u pay attention) and is the best math teacher you'll ever have. hes so laid back and nice!!," one student said.

"Mr. Zeltt makes math fun!," another said.

Zeltt pleaded guilty in February to charges of endangering the welfare of children; corruption of minors; furnishing liquor to minors; possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia; and distributing small amounts of marijuana.
