Hallowell Elementary To Host Unique 'Fall For Reading' Event
The event emphasizes "family fun and brain training for enhanced reading."

Hallowell Elementary School’s annual Fall for Reading event will give parents and family members a look at how young students are learning to become avid readers. Treadmills and a community garden factor into the learning process.
The Hallowell community invites parents, caregivers, and siblings to join the elementary school students and their teachers to see firsthand the lively and engaging approaches that are being used in the classroom.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 PM, members of the Hallowell community can explore the school’s garden, sample treats that have been prepared from the garden’s harvest, visit classrooms and enjoy a good book with a storyteller.

“Our community looks forward to this event-especially parents-because they see all the fun strategies that are being applied to the learning process.,”
said Tami Eldridge, a reading specialist at Hallowell. “Parents can use these techniques at home. In the classroom we have found that interactive reading inspires students to read and retain more of what they read.”
Eldridge noted that students will be reading while on the treadmill, while seated on an exercise ball and in other comfortable locations.
