Hallowell Elementary School Gets Into The Spirit
The Horsham Township school recently held "Spirit Day" and set goals for becoming leaders.

HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Hallowell Elementary School students have gotten into the spirit of things about leadership.
The Horsham Township school recently held its “Be A Leader” Spirit Day in which students at all levels set goals and learned the value of leadership.
“Great leadership is a part of history and is all around us. It’s right here in our school,” Principal Steve Glaize said. “That’s what this day is all about: learning to be a good leader.”

The Hatboro-Horsham High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams lead the students through dribbling, passing, and throwing drills to teach students how to work together and successfully complete tasks at the Sept. 14 event.
“It’s inspirational to help the kids today,” said Ethan Marquis, 11th grade student.

“I went to Hallowell, so it’s a good thing for me to do to give back,” added Vaughn Craig, 12th
grade student.
Students rotated between different stations and worked to reach goals individually and collectively on the court.
“All the kids are really fun and it’s great spending the day with them,” said Mya Stevens, 12th-grade student.
In addition to completing drills with the basketball teams, students listened to a special “Be A Leader" Spirit Day presentation in their classrooms.
Students and staff discussed leaders like tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, as well as the leaders found inside Hallowell Elementary School: the students themselves.
One habit of leadership that students discussed was to “begin with the end in mind.” Students
were encouraged to think about what they wanted to accomplish and create goals to help them
achieve that.
Students set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely) goals at home and at school, and then set a plan to reach them.
“My goal is to be the best student I can be,” said Josh, 2nd grade student. “I want nine smiley
faces in class so I can get rewards from the prize bin. I also want to be a leader.”
“My goal is to get better for basketball and get ready for 6th grade,” said Will, a 5th grade student.
“My favorite part of today was the dribbling courses. I’m trying to improve at them and be the
best in my grade.”
