Hallowell Elementary Invites the Public to Tour the New Building
Some of the people who know the school best – Hallowell fifth graders – will lead groups tours and showcase the Green School of the Year

Horsham, PA...Hallowell Elementary School students, teachers, and administrators invite the entire community to tour their new school building, located at 501 West Moreland Avenue in Horsham, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Some of the people who know the school best – Hallowell fifth graders – will lead groups of 10-15 people through the building, stopping at 13 interesting spots around the school to share their knowledge.
In the mechanical room, tour-takers will see first hand some of what led the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Central PA Chapter to award Hallowell Elementary the 2017 Green School of the Year Award, to be presented in a November ceremony. The building was designed to achieve USGBC LEED Gold Certification and includes a ground-source geothermal HVAC system, among other environmentally friendly innovations.

Tour stops at a classroom, media center, and video production studio will all highlight Hallowell’s cutting-edge technology. Other special places on the tour include the main showcase – created with the help of local historians- the cafeteria, gymnasium, and pedestrian bridge. “Students are not only leading these tours, they did research and helped write the tour the script,” said Hallowell Principal Steve Glaize.
The new school replaces the original Hallowell, which was built in 1961 and has been deconstructed. Tours are expected to last about 35 minutes. They will conclude in the cafeteria with refreshments and a chance to examine posters detailing the progress of the Hatboro-Horsham School District’s current elementary school construction project, a new Crooked Billet Elementary.
