The assembly, led by Hallowell Principal Steve Glaize, started off with a bang as students, led by a drummer, made their way to the assembly room. Glaize explained to students that the players were there to show what it means to be on an awesome team.

The assembly began with the importance of adopting good habits. St. Joseph’s Head Coach Cindy Griffin took the stage to explain how important hard work and goal setting are to success, sharing that her players work, train and study hard. “These players began working out at 5:30 this morning. When we leave today, they will begin their afternoon classes,” Griffin said.

Players Ashley Robinson, Candace Belvedere and Kathleen Fitzpatrick discussed both their personal and team goals for the year. As Coach Griffin rallied the students and encouraged them to think about their goals for 2014-2015, she suggested “Learn to read, study science and do well in math,” as goals and students raised their hands enthusiastically to show their support.

Following the formal assembly, students, teachers, staff and players adjourned to the courts for a lesson in teamwork.

“Go for Three” Spirit Day is now an annual event at the elementary school. “Students have fun and learn what it means to set goals for the school year,” said Glaize.
