HATBORO, PA — The Hatboro Borough Council is seeking a replacement for longtime board member George Bollendorf, who officially resigned on Monday night.

After the council accepted his resignation, Bollendorf said that he is resigning because he is moving out of the area. He was presented with a plaque for his service by the borough.

"I will be relocating to my happy place," Bollendorf said at the meeting. "Those who know me know my happy place is. Shortly, I will no longer be a resident. I've enjoyed my eight years up here."

Bollendorf said the job was a "lot of tough decisions and sleepless nights" worrying about the borough.

Bollendorf received a round of applause and was presented with the plaque. He took his nameplate, and left the meeting.

Bollendorf joined the Borough Council after being elected in 2018. He was re-elected in November and started his third term on Jan. 1.

At the council's last meeting of the year in December, Bollendorf announced that he would be stepping down as council president after eight years in the position.

During his tenure as council president, Bollendorf presided over almost every council meeting, missing only two meetings in the past eight years.

Bollendorf also worked with every council committee to ensure they received the support and guidance. He also created the Pennypack Events Committee and worked to spearhead events such as the Sip N Shops, Parties in the Park, Fireworks, and the upcoming Hat Drop.

On Sept. 9, Council President George Bollendorf was involved in an accident involving a pedestrian.

He's been one of two council members named in police reports over the past several months, including Councilwoman Nicole Shay.

The borough is accepting letters of interest for filling the vacancy on the Borough Council.

Eligible applicants must be a resident of the Borough for at least one year continuously before the appointment and must be a registered voter in the borough.

Any interested and qualified person shall submit a letter of interest and/or resume via email to the attention of Borough Manager Diane C. Hegele at dhegele@myhatboro.org or by mail to 414 South York Road, Hatboro, PA, 19040.

Applications will be accepted until the end of business on Tuesday.

A special Borough Council meeting is tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, to name Bollendorf's replacement.
