HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —It's a program that was the brainchild of teacher Justin Hager, who died last year.

At its recent meeting, Hatboro-Horsham High School Principal Dennis Williams, teachers Sarah Abercrombie and Dana Sacony, and high school students Meadow Gross and Norah Haber presented their innovative approach to driver’s education instruction.

Williams said Hager often discussed with him a better way of teaching driver education and was the driving force behind the program.

Thanks to a grant from the Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation (HHEF), the school was able to purchase a golf cart for the course, allowing students to gain behind-the-wheel experience that supplements in-class content and the use of driving simulators.

The program provides students with the basics of driving with discussions, YouTube videos, and simulators.

Students can also get on-the-road experience by driving the district’s new Jeep-like golf cart around campus under the supervision of their instructors.

Students who complete the class receive 10-15 percent discounts on their car insurance.
