Hatboro -Horsham School District Hosts FIRST Hatters Robotics Expo

The FIRST Hatters Robotics Expo brings together students from all of the District's schools

The Hatboro-Horsham School District kicks-off For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The FIRST Hatters Robotics Expo brings together the students from all of the District’s schools who have participated in robotics competitions and showcases their completed projects. Hatboro-Horsham is one of the few districts in the region that offers K-12 robotics competitions.

The community is invited to participate in this family friendly event and interact with the robots. Student inventors will be on hand to explain their projects and answer questions.

Fourth through sixth grade students participate in FIRST LEGO League and competed in Animal Allies. Robots have been programmed to help a dog assist a vision-impaired man built with Legos and to release a Lego pig back into its natural habitat.

Seventh and eighth graders participate in the FIRST Technology Challenge. Their robot has been programmed to sweep the playing field and clean up balls following a game.

The Hatboro-Horsham High School team --- a team that just missed the championship round at last year’s robotics championship in St. Louis --- focused on the FIRST Robotics Challenge. Their STEAMWORK- themed team presentation earned them the Chairman’s Award and a trip back to the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.

Innovation, intensity and science, technology, engineering and math skills, as well as the founding principles of FIRST---gracious professionalism and coopertition (cooperation and competition) ---will be on display.

The event takes place Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 6 -8 p.m. at Hallowell Elementary School, 501 West Moreland Ave, Horsham, PA.
