After much debate, school officials decided to take a departure from the school schedule of previous years, with Schools Superintendent Scott Eveslage saying that the district felt was best for students and families.

The school district is also following moves by other school districts in the Philadelphia region to start the school year a little earlier.

The first day of school will be Monday, Aug. 31. There will be no school on Friday, Sept. 4, and Labor Day, which is Monday, Sept. 7, according to the calendar.

Eveslage said in the future, the school year could start after Labor Day, depending on where it falls on the calendar.

He said the school district will post calendars for two years so students and families can better plan vacations before the school year starts.

The school board approved the new calendar in a 7-1 vote.
