Hatboro-Horsham Senior Launches Effort to Help Costa Rican Students

A Hatboro-Horsham High School senior has made it her goal to ensure the Costa Rican students she met last summer have what they need to succeed in school.

For her senior project, Jordan Plummer is raising money to send supplies to two schools in remote Costa Rica. Plummer developed the idea after a recent trip to the Central American country.

“As part of the trip we visited a small school in a remote area, and I was surprised to learn that the elementary school was a small building where one teacher holds class for K-6 in one room and what little basic school supplies they have available,” Plummer says on a GoFundMe page she developed as part of her effort.

“I was touched by the children I met and decided to do something to help them,” she said.

Plummer has a goal to raise $1,500 to send supplies to two elementary schools, Vista Del Mar Escuela and Esterillos Oeste Escuela. With nearly $1,250 as of Thursday morning, she’s close to meeting that benchmark.

Raising money is the second phase of Plummer’s project. “For the first phase of my project I collected some basic school supplies and backpacks from my fellow students at Hatboro-Horsham High School,” she said.

The $1,500 will be used for supplies, including text books, and to purchase a computer for each school, she said on GoFundMe.
