Hatboro-Horsham Sophomore Marches in Tournament of Roses Parade

Sophomore Michelle Reckner marched in the 126th Annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1.

A Hatboro-Horsham High School student had a New Year’s Day she won’t soon forget.

Sophomore Michelle Reckner was selected for the Cavalcade of Bands Tournament of Roses Honor Band and marched in the 126th Annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1.

The parade was broadcast to millions of viewers.

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and a testament to Michelle’s ability and hard work,” said William J. Naydan, director of Choral Activities at Hatboro-Horsham High School.

According to a post on Hatboro-Horsham Patch’s bulletin board, the 157-member band included students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, New York, Delaware and Maryland.

“Reckner auditioned by video and had been practicing for the big event since spring 2014. Reckner played the marching bells in the Rose Parade and was a member of the front ensemble and played marimba when the group presented a field show at Band Fest, which was hosted at Pasadena City College,” the post said.
