Hatboro-Horsham Teacher Competes in Survival Show

Season 3 of Alone Premiers December 8, on the History Channel

Hatboro-Horsham High School teacher Jim Shields was selected to participate in the History Channel’s Season 3 of Alone. Shields and nine other participants were dropped-off in remote areas of Patagonia this past summer with minimal supplies. The last person standing claims the grand prize. The series premieres Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 9 p.m. on the History Channel. A special “Making the Cut” episode begins at 8 p.m.

Shields grew up in Bucks County. He enjoys rock climbing, mountaineering and adventure traveling. He also spent extended periods of time working as a professional wilderness guide in both Colorado and Alaska.

He has been teaching high school for 13 years. In 2003, he started an Adventure Club at Hatboro-Horsham High School where he planned and guided trips to Maui, Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Costa Rica and Turkmenistan. He is a certified Wilderness EMT.

Alone is a reality television series on History, which premiered in June 2015. Now in its third season, the series is filmed in remote areas and documents the day-to-day lives of 10 individuals as they attempt to survive in the wilderness. The participants are isolated from each other and all human contact. The contestant who remains the longest wins the grand prize.
