Hatboro-Horsham Teacher Recognized

Erika Schwanbeck is Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year

Keith Valley Middle School Physical Education Teacher Erika Schwanbeck was recently named Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSSAHPERD). The award was presented at the annual PSSAHPERD convention held at Seven Springs Resort.

Since 2006, Schwanbeck has taught health and physical education at Keith Valley Middle School. She currently serves as the curriculum coordinator for the school’s Department of Health and Physical Education.

Among her many accomplishments are developing and implementing an after school program designed to improve girls’ self-esteem and serving as a member of the Keith Valley Assistance Team for Students, which helps students with health, academic, behavior, wellness and attendance issues. She has also been trained in restorative practices, an approach that relies on constructive conflict resolutions.

Schwanbeck received her Bachelors of Science in Movement Studies and Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology from East Stroudsburg University. She continued her education at West Chester University, receiving certification through the Post-Baccalaureate program and completed a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Scranton.

During her teaching career, she has enjoyed coaching high school softball and middle school tennis and field hockey.
