Montco Man Confesses To Sexually Assaulting Underage Girl

HATBORO, PA — A 20-year-old Hatboro man confessed to having inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl when he was a high school senior on house arrest, records show.

River Tyler Stauch pleaded guilty to statutory sexual assault and unlawful contact with a minor in front of Judge Thomas M. DelRicci on August 29, court records show.

Stauch was 17 and 18 at the time of the crimes and is at least four years older than the victim, according to court papers. His sentencing date has not been set. Judge DelRicci ordered a psychosexual evaluation before Stauch's sentencing, the Pottstown Mercury reported.

Stauch remains in custody in Bucks County, where officials also say he sent inappropriate and threatening messages to an underage resident in Warrington Township.

Stauch was on house arrest, and living with his grandmother when he admitted to having sexual intercourse with the teen, police said. Court papers show Stauch lied to police initially about how many times they had intercourse.

The victim told police she knew he was a senior at Hatboro-Horsham High School, and said she had talked to Stauch about her age. The victim said Stauch and another juvenile girl she knew had spent time together previously.

In December 2019, the victim told police, the three were together in Stauch's room. The other girl "kept asking" the victim if she wanted to have sex with Stauch. The victim said Stauch began touching her genital area. She "eventually gave in" but changed her mind; when she did, Stauch forced her to keep having sex with him, she said.

The other juvenile girl filmed part of the sexual encounter with her phone, according to police.

The victim said the three were in Stauch's room again on a subsequent weekend; he forced her to perform oral sex on him and they had intercourse again, she said.

A number of other charges against Stauch will not be prosecuted in exchange for his guilty plea, records show.

In a separate case, Bucks County officials charged Stauch earlier this year after they say he sent explicit Snapchat messages with an underage resident.

According to Warrington Township police, a resident reported they had received a sexually explicit message on Snapchat from someone they did not know. The resident, a minor, told the user their age, and the person asked for nude images. The minor told the Snapchat user no and the person threatened them, police said.

Police identified Stauch as the Snapchat user and announced his arrest on July 14, 2022. In this case, Stauch faces charges of unlawful contact with a minor, distributing explicit sexual material to a minor, corruption of minors, and sexual extortion.

He is in custody in Bucks County CFI, records show.
