HATBORO, PA —The Hatboro Memorial Pool is getting a new slide.

Hatboro Borough Council Monday night approved the purchase of the new pool slide for $153,000, contingent on the slide fitting in the existing footprint.

Borough officials said they voted immediately after prices dropped by $40,000 from two years, a quote that Council President George Bollendorf didn't expect to see.

The slide costs $145,000 and $8,000 for shipping and handling. It's delivery could take four months, council members said.

Councilwoman Amanda Jacobus expressed jubilation over the new slide's approval, waiving her hands up in the air during the vote. "I'm excited," she told Patch following the council meeting.

The matter was approved during the voting session of the council's work session meeting.

The new slide is just one of the changes coming to the pool this year.

Also Monday, the Council approved a request for proposals to run the pool snack stand.

At its March 25 meeting, the Council approved a motion to approve the design of the mural at the Memorial Pool and authorize the Young Rembrandts to paint the mural.

Councilman Todd A'Harrah said that the borough would hold Community Day at the pool on May 18. (The event was canceled last year due to inclement weather.)

Residents can renew their pool membership or join the Hatboro Memorial Pool, located at 330 W. Moreland Ave.

The event takes place from Noon to 4 p.m. and includes an afternoon of food, swimming, and local vendors.

Meanwhile, the pool is seeking lifeguards for the upcoming 2024 season.

All lifeguards must be a minimum of age 15 (with proper lifeguard and CPR certifications).
