Hatboro Photographer Puts Professionals' Best Faces Forward

Kara Raudenbush Photography is carving out a niche capturing eye-catching career headshots.

The days of sending out faceless job applications and resumes are long gone. With 347 million LinkedIn users connecting with future colleagues and employers on the business-focused social media network, a professional-looking headshot is vitally important.

That’s where Kara Raudenbush Photography comes in. Raudenbush, 48, of Hatboro, has been working behind the lens for the last three decades.

During that time, Raudenbush has been using her expertise to not only capture compelling images, but to soothe her subjects into feeling more comfortable in front of the camera.

“There’s almost a psychology to it,” Raudenbush said. “When somebody’s sitting in front of a camera it’s so invasive. It’s hard to sit there and be confident. You have to let go of your fears.”

Raudenbush is collaborating with a life coach, Mollye Readinger-Scott, to offer workshops aimed at easing the worries associated with being photographed. The first workshop is planned for the fall.

In addition to allaying fears, Raudenbush helps professionals capture the appropriate look based on their work life and the “image” they have in mind.

“Because it’s so visual people want almost to pick who they are in their headshots,” she said. “It’s not as easy as sitting on a stool in a suit and a nice white blouse.”

Raudenbush got her first taste of headshot photography after graduating from the Antonelli School of Art and Photography. She worked for Davor Photo in Bensalem for 13 years and traveled from town to town shooting yearbook photos.

Since then, she formed her own company, Kara Raudenbush Photography to capturing everything from infant sessions, family portraits and overseeing a DIY photo club. Through her work with Showstopper Photography Raudenbush photographs dance and sporting events.

“One of the things that drives me and gives me energy is to give,” she said. “How can you do it a better way than to give people images of life moments?”

But why the focus on headshots?

“On any given day at any given time go onto LinkedIn,” Raudenbush said. “There are horrible headshots. People need a good, professional-looking photograph for their social media needs and their job applications.”
