HHSD Kicks Off Shoe Collection on April 1

Hatboro-Horsham School District will kick-off a Shoe Drive Fundraiser on April 1, 2018, that will run through May 31st.

Hatboro-Horsham High School Speech-Language Pathologist Erin McGovern proposed the Shoe Drive Fundraiser (April 1, 2018, that will run through May 31st) as a service learning project and she coordinated with HHSD Director of Community Outreach Jeannie Hagan.

Every school in the District---five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school---is participating, along with several local businesses. The collection is being conducted in conjunction with Funds2Orgs – a for-profit fundraising enterprise that benefits the global community by providing economic opportunities for workers in developing nations while helping the environment. The shoes collected are taken to developing nations around the world, where Funds2Orgs helps micro-entrepreneurs set up small local businesses.

Organizers plan to collect 2,500 pairs of shoes and the community is invited to donate new or gently worn shoes. Students can drop off their shoe donations at school. Community members who would like to donate should drop them off at the HHSD Administrative Offices, 229 Meetinghouse Road, Horsham, PA, Monday- Friday.

“I immediately fell in love with the idea and the Funds2Orgs mission. The project easily aligns with the District’s current initiative to engage students in the concept of Deeper Learning,” McGovern said.

The District will use the money raised to develop programs supporting success after high school for students with diverse learning needs.
