Historical Figures Walk the Halls of Simmons Elementary School
History was brought to life during Simmons Elementary School's Living Museum
History was brought to life during Simmons Elementary School’s Living Museum, which was held Jan. 22. Over a dozen famous Americans were portrayed by the school’s second- graders.
The program encourages students to learn about the influences people have in their communities, cities and, even across the globe. This project underscores the belief that one person can make a difference. Even small acts can have big impacts.
Some of the famous movers and shakers featured were: Jackie Robinson, Ruby Bridges, Wilbur Wright and Abraham Lincoln.

Students were responsible for researching a historically significant figure, preparing a short biography and dressing in costume.
Second grade teachers Theresa Weber and Kristen Lieberman partnered their classrooms for this project. The Living Museum is based on the concept of a wax museum. Visitors stop at each character exhibit and listen to the student read their character’s biography.

The project helps students become more comfortable with public speaking and public performance. Students and parents look forward to this creative, fun and educational event!
