Horsham Dog Park Events Suspended Until Further Notice

Officials said the dog park needs volunteers and board members to continue events in Horsham Township.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —All Horsham Dog Park events —including the popular Horsham Dog Park Halloween/Anniversary party —are suspended until further notice, officials said.

The loss of community volunteers and members of the dog park's sitting board is behind the suspension of events, officials said.

"Sadly, after many successful recent years of hosting such a great event, we need to announce that there will not be a Horsham Dog Park Halloween/Anniversary party this year," officials announced in a Facebook post.

Officials said that the dog park and its general upkeep are managed by a group of community volunteers that make up a board within a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

"This means we are required to have officers and sitting board members who are dedicated to help plan events and fundraise each year in order to afford things like the treated, dog-friendly mulch and other upkeep needed each year," officials said.

The township does not cover the dog park's maintenance expenses like they do for other playgrounds and parks, officials said.

This year, the sitting board, all of whom have held positions since 2020, has all recently resigned due to many reasons (lost their dog, dog no longer uses park, moved, etc.).

"We are in desperate need of new volunteer community members to take over," officials said.

The current dog park board has several open positions.

Anyone interested in becoming involved in the dog park and taking the reins on fundraising and events for the dog park should send officials a message.

"The outgoing board members are happy to on-board and pass the baton onto a new class of community volunteers and dog park users so that the Horsham Dog Park can resume to its usual, amazing events and fundraising efforts to ensure the park can continue to be well maintained," officials said. "We still believe it's the best [free] park around, and we want to be sure we keep it that way. Until that time, all dog park events will be suspended."
