HORSHAM, PA -- A Horsham man, a student teacher and frequent youth sports volunteer in the area, has been arrested after having sexual conversations with a 12-year-old boy on Snapchat and Instagram, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Kevin Patrick Barron, 21, now faces two counts of corruption of minors.

Barron met the victim after one of the victim's basketball games, which Barron refereed, back on Dec. 17, 2017, the DA said.

The pair began by chatting about the boy's performance in the game and basketball in general, but soon turned sexual in nature, authorities said.

Eventually, Barron asked for a photo of the boy's genitalia, and the boy sent it. That's when his mother took her son's phone and found the picture, and immediately reported it to police on Jan. 29.

An investigation followed, and Barron was arrested on March 29.

Barron attends Campbell University in Bules Creek, North Carolina, where he majors in elementary education and is a student teacher at an elementary school. Police said he has been a volunteer for youth sports in the Hatboro and Horsham area for some time.

Barron was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned last Friday, and was permitted to return to his classes in North Carolina. However, he was ordered to have no contact with minors except as might be required for his classes, and he must always be supervised by a staff member.

Police are asking for anyone who has had "suspicious interactions" with Barron to report the incidents to the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 29.
