Horsham team wins Gold Medal!

Charity Pickleball tournament attracts players from across region

Horsham residents Maureen Griet and David McPhillips won a gold medal in mixed doubles at the Ovarian Cancer Charity Pickleball Tournament at Camp Curiosity in Doylestown September 16. Over 80 players of all ages and skill levels from the Delaware Valley area and beyond participated in the weekend event.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States, with almost 3 millions players nationwide. It is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat similar to tennis, with several modifications.
Horsham Township is currently exploring possible sites for Pickleball courts for local residents to enjoy.
