Keith Valley Student Newspaper Receives National Award
The American Scholastic Press Association has honored Keith Valley's 'Hatter Chatter' student newspaper as one of the best in the nation.

As Hatboro-Horsham students make the transition from elementary to middle school, the opportunities they have to get involved in a wider array of activities and organizations comes along with the move. Among the more popular clubs at Keith Valley Middle School is the student newspaper known as Hatter Chatter. The newspaper, which is published three times during the school year, covers the breadth of activities and news spanning the KVMS community, from sports reports and class initiatives to club updates and entertainment reviews. It also features profiles of KVMS faculty and staff members and student opinions.
This year, Hatter Chatter has been recognized by The American Scholastic Press Association's annual student newspaper awards. These annual awards honor the top student newpapers nationwide from elementary schools to collegiate publications.
The ASPA honored Keith Valley's Hatter Chatter with an overall second place award and as one of the four top middle school student newspapers in the nation. The ASPA's annual review compares student publications around the nation and grades each student newspaper on a 1,000 point scale.

The organization consider a spectrum of factors when honoring student newspapers, including page design, story layout, graphics, headlining, cover design, advertising placement, and photography. Award winners are selected by a judging panel of educators who are experienced faculty advisers for scholastic publications.
As an ASPA award winning student newspaper, Hatter Chatter, will be listed in The American Scholastic Journalist, a guide published by The American Scholastic Press Association which features the award winning publications.
