Kitchen Fires On The Rise In Horsham

Horsham ChATs is reminding residents about prevention after numerous kitchen fires were reported recently in the township.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Over the past several months, the Horsham Fire Company and the Horsham Township Fire Marshal’s Office have responded to several kitchen fire incidents.

Horsham Community Police Servicesis urging residents to be mindful of kitchen fire safety during this time of the year.

"Cooking remains the leading cause of house fires in the United States, but many of these incidents are preventable," Horsham ChATs said.

Horsham ChATs is offering some simple safety steps that can make all the difference for fire prevention and prevent a major kitchen fire disaster:

  • Keep flammable items (dish towels, paper products, plastic containers, small appliances) away from the stovetop
  • Stay in the kitchen while cooking — never leave food unattended
  • Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it
  • Never use water on a grease fire
  • If a fire gets out of control, get out, stay out, and call 911 immediately
