Letters From Horsham Officials Show Frustration With Cleanup: Report

Horsham officials reportedly sent angry letters to the Navy, Air Force, EPA, and National Guard regarding the water contamination cleanup.

HORSHAM, PA — A series of letters criticizing the way various government agencies have handled the Horsham water crises was made public in a media report on Thursday.

The Intelligencer said that the letters, sent by Horsham officials to the Air Force, Navy, EPA, National Guard, and other agencies, indicate the township's sense of how the government is addressing the situation.

The letters take aim at the military cleanup crews for working slowly and the EPA and others for being disorganized and unreliable, the report states.

They were reportedly signed by officials from the Horsham Water and Sewer Authority and the Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority.

Perhaps the most significant target of the letters was the National Guard, who is in charge of the Horsham Air Guard Station, where chemicals were being pumped into Park Creek until very recently, the report states.

Wells in Horsham have been taken offline in recent months as federal officials work with local lawmakers and community organizations to address the water contamination issue. It is believed that the potentially hazardous chemicals, PFOS and PFOA, were discharged into the groundwater supply on the base from firefighting foams.
