Library Program Encourages Students to Become Regular Visitors

Keith Valley students lunch and learn with special guests

Keith Valley Middle School Librarian Lisa R. Quinn organized Teen Read Week in October and discovered something interesting---approximately 80 students a day were visiting the library and were interested in hearing what the guest speakers had to say. Many of these students were not “regular” library visitors. When the week ended, students wanted more… more opportunities to connect with featured guests. As a result, Ms. Quinn has launched a library series called “Lunch with the Guest of the Month.”

From December until May, one day a month has been set aside for an invited guest to make 3, 20 minute presentations during student lunch periods. Presentations will take place during 6th, 7th and 8th period lunches, which run from 10:45 AM – 1:00 PM.

Ms. Quinn is looking forward to the monthly programs and said, “The speaker series will give students a meaningful connection to figures from the community and the school district who work to provide services and a positive experiences for students.
