Longtime Horsham Public Works Employee Retires
Public Works employee Al Bahner worked for the township for 29 years. He received a proclamation at Monday's Horsham Council meeting.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —Horsham Township is saying goodbye to a longtime public works employee.
At Monday night's meeting, the Horsham Township Council recognized the contributions of Al Bahner, who worked for the township for 29 years.
Bahner was given a proclamation for his retirement and service to the township.

“Al Bahner was a very good employee,’’ Township Manager Bill Walker said. "To him, it was more than just a job.”
Bahner had his hand in just about everything as a public works employee, from plowing roads in the winter to paving them in the summer.

He also helped with the annual Horsham Day and in damage recovery after a tornado swept through the township a few years ago.
The Hatboro-Horsham High School graduate was first hired as a part-time employee, who rose through the ranks throughout his career, eventually landing a lead worker position, the highest in the union.
"Al has a great work ethic and he certainly showed how much he cares for our community, he will absolutely be missed," township officials said.

Meanwhile, at its March 25 meeting, Walker said the township wrote a $450,000 check for right-of-way acquisition for the Limekiln Pike-Horsham Road Intersection Improvement Project.
The council also paid out $94,000 to Carr and Duff Inc. for the installation of lighting in the Pennsylvania Business Campus.
In other township business at the March 25 meeting:
- The council opposed a request for variances by VV Easton LLC & VFV1111 LLC at 1160 Easton Road. The owner wanted to store outdoor restrooms in the property’s parking lot. Walker said the request is not allowed. It also reduces the required parking on the site. The company is also appealing the violation notice issued by the township.
- Council also decided to remain neutral on a request to build a pool and deck at 1030 Oak Ridge Dr. that slightly exceeded impervious surface requirements.
- Council also remained neutral on a request to build a construction office and storage facility at 408 Norristown Road. The use is not permitted in the C-2 zone.
- Council also voted unanimously to authorize bids for the Forrester Road Basin and Whetstone Basin Retrofit project.
