The roster of athletes expected at the 2018 USA Women’s U17 World Cup Team Trials was unveiled, and 172 athletes were expected to take part from May 24-28, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the onset of the Trials, 158 athletes arrived and confirmed their spot in the registration process.
The coaches and selection committee were among the nation’s elite basketball evaluators. Some notables include USA coaches Carla Berube, Steve Gomez and Vanessa Nygaard; Carol Callan, USA Basketball National Team Director; and WNBA legends Tamika Catchings and DeLisha Milton-Jones.

The trials roster for the 2018 USA Basketball Women's U17 World Cup Team went from 158 to 102 hopefuls after Round One of cuts. Andrews continued to shine in her performance with strong defensive skills, ball movement, and efficient shot attempts to make it through Round Two positioning Andrews among the top 70 athletes selected at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A rigorous training and scrimmage session continued throughout the evening, and at 8:45am Sunday, May 27th, Andrews learned she was cut in 3rd Round of the Trials that further dropped the roster from 70 athletes to 45.

Mia Andrews exclaims, “This has been an amazing experience! The USA Basketball coaches have pushed me further than I’ve ever known and I’m extremely thankful for the knowledge and wisdom they have taught me. I’ve met and played with the most talented athletes in the country and hope to see them again! Thank you to all my friends and family for the support and prayers! This is only the beginning of my basketball career and I will get better every day! GO USA!”
Mia Andrews is a Guard in the Class of 2019 for Archbishop Wood High School. She and her Wood Girls Basketball team have won 2 state championships, was a 2018 runner-up, a 3-time District Champion, and 1-time Philadelphia Catholic League Champion. She was also recently selected as 2nd team All Catholic. Her AAU club is the Philadelphia Belles.
Andrews resides in Horsham, PA with her family including her sister Eva Andrews (2024), an up-and-coming basketball player at Keith Valley Middle School and Philadelphia Belles.
